North Central specializes in secure local and long distance mental and behavioral health transportation. Our trained professionals are available for a variety of specialized services such as detox and emergency detention monitoring in and out of the hospital. Our fully equipped secure transport vehicles are available to any of our municipal, hospital, and specialized facility clients, anytime of day, year round. Medical taxi's tend to operate only during daytime hours and do not ensure continuity of care to the receiving facility staff. An uber alike, you are typically dropped at the door and no special training is required of drivers. Our staff ensures the patient gets to where they need to be safely and securely.

Sure the police do these transports as well, however laws tend to require the transport to be the least restrictive possible. This typically is not the case with the police. In fact the mere sight of a police uniform can be detrimental to some patients and can cause unnecessary stress during the transport. We then have to think about the waiting time while a receiving facility is found which can take many hours all while taking a valuable asset off of your community streets. Lastly there is the high costs associated with all of the overtime, the fuel, the wear and tear on the vehicles, and officer fatigue. Everywhere you look you see the shortage of police officers and communities are growing larger every day.

Ambulances offer similar services because they typically have a close relationship with the sending facility. The problem is there is no medical necessity for an ambulance and insurance does not always pay for these services leaving those ambulance services to cover the costs on their own which creates a long list of other internal issues we don't need to get into. Secondly, EMT's aren't typically trained to deal with high risk behavioral patients and the ambulance isn't equipped to restrain a patient properly and can lead to documented elopements, injuries, or crashes. There are other factors such as personnel being awake for longer periods of time, taking away valuable medical resources from hospitals that are already struggling to find available ambulances for medical transports, or taking well trained medical personnel away from their assigned area to transport a more than likely cooperative and physically healthy individual not in need of medical intervention.
